Shopify Mobile
App Development
for iOS & Android.

Most of your customers are already browsing your store on their phones. A dedicated app gives them something a mobile browser tab can't: saved payment details, push notifications, biometric login, and a faster checkout. We've been building custom Shopify apps since 2017, and every mobile app we ship is wired directly to your store via the Storefront API. Your Shopify admin stays the one place you manage everything.

iOS, Android, or both: your choice

We use React Native for most projects. One codebase covers iOS and Android, which keeps cost down and keeps both apps moving in sync. For brands that need deep platform-specific capabilities (think intensive AR, complex animations, or low-level hardware access), we build natively in Swift or Kotlin instead.

What goes into every app we build

The core feature set covers everything a shopping app needs to work well. Beyond that, we build in whatever makes sense for your brand: loyalty programmes for repeat-purchase stores, subscription management for subscription businesses, or B2B-specific flows for brands with trade customers. You can also see our custom Shopify app development work for more on backend capabilities.

01
Product Browsing & Search
Full product catalogue with collections, tag and variant filtering, and fast search via the Shopify Storefront API. Predictive results, typo tolerance, and offline browsing for recently viewed products. No browser required.
02
Cart & Shopify Checkout
A native cart that feeds into Shopify's checkout, so Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, and Afterpay all work exactly as they do on your web store. There's no duplicate checkout config to manage.
03
Customer Accounts & Order History
Login via Shopify's Customer Account API. Existing customers use the same credentials as your web store. Their order history, tracking, saved addresses, and wishlist are all there. New registrations go straight into your Shopify admin.
04
Push Notifications
Promotional campaigns, order confirmations, shipping updates, back-in-stock alerts, and cart abandonment reminders. Your marketing team manages all of it from a dashboard. No developer needed to schedule or send a notification.
05
Wishlist & Save for Later
Wishlist tied to the customer account, accessible across any device they log in from. Low-stock and price-drop push notifications for saved items, especially useful for apparel and home brands with frequent new drops.
06
Loyalty & Rewards Integration
Loyalty-heavy brands get a lot out of a mobile app. Customers can check points, redeem rewards, and see tier status without leaving the shopping experience. We integrate LoyaltyLion, Smile.io, and Yotpo Loyalty, or we can build a custom in-app loyalty programme from scratch.
07
Product Reviews
We pull verified reviews from Judge.me, Okendo, or Yotpo directly onto product detail pages. Ratings and review counts visible at a glance: the same trust signals your web customers see, working properly in-app.
08
Subscriptions
Subscription brands get the most value here. Customers can manage their subscriptions, skip a delivery, swap a product, or change frequency. All in the app. We connect to Recharge and Skio. If subscriptions are your core model, a dedicated app is a serious retention tool.
09
Multi-Currency & Multi-Language
Full support for Shopify's multi-currency and localisation features. It detects the user's location automatically and shows pricing in their local currency and content in their preferred language.

Always in sync with your Shopify store

The mobile app connects to your Shopify store through the Storefront API: Shopify's GraphQL API built for customer-facing commerce. This means the app is always live and in sync with your store. There's no separate product catalogue to manage, no separate inventory system to maintain. Every product update, price change, inventory adjustment, promotional discount, or new collection you publish in your Shopify admin shows up in the app immediately. Your store admin is the single source of truth. That's it. Customer accounts, orders, and checkout all run through Shopify too, so your support team, fulfilment workflow, and reporting stay exactly as they are. The app is an additional channel, not a parallel system. If you're also looking at Shopify Plus, the same principle applies across all your channels.

01
Real-time product & inventory sync
Products, variants, pricing, inventory levels, and availability are pulled live from Shopify via the Storefront API. No import, no export, no lag.
02
Shopify-powered checkout
Cart and checkout flow through Shopify's native checkout system. All your active payment methods, discount codes, shipping rules, and tax configuration are already there.
03
Orders appear in your Shopify admin
Every app order is created in Shopify the same way as a web order. It shows up in your admin, feeds your fulfilment workflow, and counts in your reporting.
04
Customer accounts are shared
Customers log in with their Shopify account. Their order history, saved addresses, and loyalty points are consistent across web and mobile because they're stored in Shopify.
05
Promotions apply automatically
Discount codes, automatic discounts, and Shopify Functions-based promotions configured in your Shopify admin apply to app orders without any extra setup.

Why brands invest in a dedicated mobile shopping app

Mobile web experiences are decent. A purpose-built, branded app is better: for retention, conversion, average order value, and the relationship your customers have with your brand.

01
Higher conversion rates than mobile web
Apps consistently outperform mobile browsers on conversion. The experience is faster, checkout takes seconds with saved payment methods, and there's no browser friction in the way. That's why we've seen mobile apps convert at roughly 3x the rate of their mobile web counterparts.
02
Push notifications drive repeat purchases
Push notifications are the highest-engagement channel in mobile commerce. Back-in-stock alerts, exclusive offers, and new collection launches sent to a customer's lock screen consistently outperform email open rates. You're not competing with an inbox.
03
Higher average order value
App shoppers typically spend more per transaction. Less friction in the purchase flow, saved payment methods, and well-placed recommendations all push cart value up. It isn't complicated. It's just a better buying experience.
04
A branded channel you own entirely
Unlike social or marketplace channels, your mobile app is a direct line to your customers. No algorithm deciding who sees what, no competitor ads sitting next to your products. A customer who's installed your app is far more likely to stay a loyal buyer.
05
A better experience for your best customers
Your most valuable customers, the ones who buy frequently, deserve the best possible experience. An app built around your brand, with their account, preferences, and wishlist always at hand, deepens loyalty and increases lifetime value. Our portfolio shows what that looks like in practice.
06
No browser limitations or redirects
Mobile browsers have limitations that apps don't. Cookie banners, third-party payment redirects, browser chrome eating screen space, no access to biometrics for payment. None of that exists in a properly built native app.

Built on proven mobile technology

React Native lets us build for both iOS and Android from a shared codebase. That keeps cost down and development time manageable while delivering a smooth, performant experience on both platforms. Where platform-specific requirements demand it, we build natively in Swift or Kotlin. Our team of 30+ in-house specialists (no freelancers, no outsourcing) handles the full stack.

How we build your Shopify mobile app

Discovery to App Store live. Every mobile app project follows a five-phase process with clear milestones, regular demos on real devices, and full documentation at handover. No surprises mid-project.

Phase 01
Discovery & Feature Scoping

We document every required feature, user flow, integration point, and design requirement before anything else happens. Platform targets are confirmed, and a milestone-based project plan is agreed. You get a detailed feature specification and cost breakdown out of this phase, not just a rough estimate.

Phase 02
UI/UX Design

Our designers create wireframes for every screen, then high-fidelity mockups in your brand's visual identity: typography, colour, iconography, and micro-interactions. iOS and Android design conventions are both respected. Everything is reviewed and signed off before development begins.

Phase 03
Development & API Integration

React Native development kicks off with the Shopify Storefront API connected from day one. We build in two-week sprints with working demos on real devices after each one. Push notifications, payment methods, and all secondary features are built and tested incrementally. Nothing gets left to the end. We also do the performance work during this phase, not as an afterthought.

Phase 04
QA Testing on Real Devices

We test across a range of physical iOS and Android devices: multiple screen sizes, OS versions, and network conditions. All user flows are tested including checkout with real payment methods. Performance, accessibility, and edge cases are covered before any submission goes in.

Phase 05
App Store & Google Play Submission

We prepare all App Store metadata, screenshots, app preview assets, and content ratings. Both Apple App Store and Google Play submissions are managed by our team. If there's any reviewer feedback, we respond and resubmit until the app is approved and live. You don't have to touch any of it.

Mobile app development questions answered

Everything you need to know about building a mobile app for your Shopify store: cost, timelines, technology, and how it all connects.

Ask us directly
How much does it cost to build a Shopify mobile app?

It depends on the platform targets, the number of features, design complexity, and any custom integrations. A well-featured Shopify mobile app covering browsing, cart and checkout, customer accounts, push notifications, and wishlists typically starts from $15,000 to $30,000 for a single platform.

A dual-platform app (iOS and Android) built in React Native typically runs from $20,000 to $50,000+. Apps with advanced features such as loyalty programmes, subscription management, AR product visualisation, or deep ERP integration sit higher than that.

We’ll give you a detailed, itemised estimate after a proper discovery session. No guesswork.

How does the mobile app connect to my Shopify store?

The app connects through Shopify’s Storefront API: a GraphQL API built specifically for customer-facing commerce. Every product, price, inventory level, collection, and promotion in your Shopify admin is available in real time through this API.

Managing the app’s product catalogue is identical to managing your web store. It’s all done in your Shopify admin. Customer accounts, orders, and checkout all flow through Shopify, so your support team and fulfilment workflow don’t change at all.

How long does it take to build a Shopify mobile app?

A well-featured Shopify mobile app typically takes 12 to 20 weeks from kick-off to App Store and Google Play approval. That includes 3–4 weeks of design, 8–12 weeks of development, 2–3 weeks of QA testing on real devices, and the App Store review process.

Apple’s review typically takes 1 to 3 business days for new apps. Google Play’s is usually faster. Complex apps with advanced integrations can run up to 24 weeks. We’ll give you a milestone-based timeline after scoping your specific requirements.

Should I build a native app or use React Native?

React Native is the right choice for most Shopify mobile apps. It uses a single codebase for both iOS and Android, delivers near-native performance, supports all Shopify API integrations, and costs significantly less than building two fully native apps separately.

Fully native development (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android) is only worth it when the app needs highly platform-specific capabilities that React Native can’t handle: intensive graphics, deep hardware access, or complex AR. For eCommerce, React Native works well in almost every case.

Will the app be available on both App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We handle the full submission process for both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as part of every project. That includes configuring App Store Connect and Google Play Console, preparing app metadata, generating screenshots and preview assets, completing content rating questionnaires, and managing the review process through to approval.

You don’t need to manage any part of the submission yourself. If Apple or Google raises any feedback during review, we respond and resubmit until the app is live.

Can the app send push notifications?

Yes. Push notifications are standard in every Shopify mobile app we build. The system supports promotional campaigns (new arrivals, sales, exclusive offers), transactional notifications (order confirmed, shipping dispatched, delivered), cart abandonment reminders, back-in-stock alerts, and wishlist price-drop notifications.

Campaigns are managed via a backend dashboard your marketing team can use independently. They can schedule, target customer segments, and send notifications without involving a developer. iOS notifications go via APNs; Android via Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Can customers log in with their existing Shopify account?

Yes. Authentication runs via Shopify’s Customer Account API. Existing customers log in with the same credentials as your web store. Their order history, saved addresses, wishlist, and loyalty points are all right there in the app.

New customers can register directly in the app, and their account is created in your Shopify admin automatically. Biometric authentication (Face ID on iOS, fingerprint on Android) can be turned on for returning customers. Shopify’s new Customer Accounts system is supported.

What payment methods does the app support?

The app supports all payment methods already active on your Shopify store, because checkout runs through Shopify’s native checkout infrastructure. That includes Shopify Payments (all major cards), Shop Pay, Apple Pay (iOS), Google Pay (Android), PayPal, and any Buy Now Pay Later options you’ve enabled like Klarna, Afterpay, or Affirm.

Customers can save their payment method for one-tap checkout on future orders. The app doesn’t handle card data directly. All payment processing goes through Shopify’s PCI-compliant infrastructure.

What features can my Shopify mobile app include?

Standard features in every app we build: product browsing with search and filtering, collections, product detail pages with variants and media galleries, cart and checkout, customer accounts, order history and tracking, push notifications, and wishlists.

Additional features we build on request: loyalty programme integration, product reviews display, subscription management (Recharge, Skio), referral programmes, multi-currency and multi-language support, barcode scanning, social login (Apple, Google), live chat integration, personalised product recommendations, and AR product visualisation where it fits your product type. Our New York team can walk you through what makes sense for your specific store.
